8/12/2023 0 Comments Sip and scan coke imageAfter school, many of my friends emigrated and now post-university, others are considering following the trend, and so the question looms at the back of our minds, “Am I going to stay in South Africa?” Often, we need to be taken out of our reality to see it for what it really is. Though I was overwhelmed at being with our global Jewish family and counterparts, being with them made me appreciate not only being Jewish but also South African, and that I had a return flight to Johannesburg. Yes, some might use this influence for antisemitic rhetoric, but I see it as an incredible achievement, and it reminds me of my duty as a Jew to make a difference. When it comes to being Jewish, if our influence is compared to our numbers, it doesn’t make rational sense. Second, the fact that I was beyond grateful that as a Jew, I live in South Africa. Throughout the trip, there was a recurring thought in my head – first, how proud I was to be part of the global Jewish community and the contribution it makes in the world. But the most incredible part of it was being surrounded by more than 150 Jews representing their communities around the world. We met the European Union Parliament, North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, Israeli President Isaac Hertzog, and countless other Jewish organisations. The conference began in Brussels, Belgium, and then moved to Jerusalem, Israel. I was part of one of WJC’s delegations called NextGen, as a fellow of The Lauder Fellowship. Last week, I returned from the World Jewish Congress (WJC) conference, with the theme of bridging the gap between diaspora Jews and Israel. Oh, how much greener the grass must be on the other side! We dream of living in Israel among all the Jewish people, especially when loadshedding hits and the 100th discussion is had about the state of South Africa. We dream of studying at one of the many schools or universities in America. We dream of walking the streets of Europe.

The double-tier steamer rack holds seven eggs each and can cook perfectly done soft, medium, or. One touch cooking: simply add water, eggs, and press the Power Button. The Bear Egg Cooker can make up to 14 boiled eggs at one time. Peeling them directly from the ice bath instead of storing and peeling later is said to give the best results.Ī quick tip is to crack your eggs before putting them in the ice bath, because the cold water will help the egg whites to separate from the shell a bit. Hard boiled, soft boiled, poached, and scrambled eggs all cook in minutes. This method is supposed to cool and harden the eggs quickly, making them not only easier to peel but also easier to handle. Many recommend putting your newly hard-boiled eggs in an ice water bath for at least five minutes (and up to 15 minutes). In the New York Times's experiment, linked above, they found that eggs fresh from the farm and eggs from the store peeled with similar ease.
8/12/2023 0 Comments Leg tuckAlso, in the Army’s analysis, when the leg tuck was added, the ACFT’s ability to predict performance on WTBD-ST did not improve (as previously discussed). RAND assessed that the original argument that the Army provided for including the leg tuck needs further justification, especially when some soldiers may lack sufficient upper body strength to perform a single repetition of this event. Riley data showed a strong correlation between the leg tucks and pull-ups (a general measure of upper body strength), and that this correlation was much stronger than the relationship between leg tucks and sit-ups (a general measure of core fitness). Therefore, women may have core strength that is not accurately measured because they lack upper body strength required to perform a leg tuck.Īnalysis of the Ft. As a measure of core strength, there are confounding factors (e.g., limited upper body strength) that may impact the measurement of core strength for women. RAND’s the findings for the leg tuck are quite complex and, based on the WTBD-ST study, indicate weak evidence that the event is valid, particularly for women. In addition, it ensures Soldiers have a similar testing experience and opportunity to succeed during every event of the ACFT. Moving to the plank as the sole core assessment allows the Army to verify that the ACFT properly measures all Soldiers’ core strength consistently and equally. The cube itself consists of 8 identical units, which I have called cubies. It also has lots of room for customizability, and you can create it using any kind of paper you like (as long as it's sturdy enough). Made from only 3 sheets of paper, it is cheap to create and can be made by nearly anyone. The final object is a great toy to fidget with, keep on display, or even give as a gift. I have also decided to give this template (and the PDO file) for free, and to give a brief walkthrough of how I created the model/template. Thus, I set out to create my own variant that could be reproduced from paper, which I titled the Geode Cube, because of its boring exterior color but beautiful internals (just like a real geode). However, this design can be modified so that when the cube is fully folded outward, it makes a completely new shape: a star (check the video above to see how this happens)! When the cube is fully unfolded, it creates a cube with a completely different surface than the original. For those of you not familiar with them, transforming cubes are toys with pictures on the inside that can unfold to reveal different surfaces each time. This forward-thinking West African outfit recorded a wealth of material, including landmark titles such as Gentlemen and Zombie during the ’60s and ’70s, while in his latter days, Allen occupied the drum stool for Damon Albarn’s The Good, The Bad & The Queen and recorded several highly-regarded titles for Blue Note. Self-taught Nigerian native Tony Allen’s driving, polyrhythmic style formed the bedrock of ‘Afrobeat’: the breathtaking fusion of funk, calypso, traditional Nigerian rhythms and the bebop of American drummer Art Blakey he pioneered alongside visionary multi-instrumentalist Fela Kuti in Africa ’70. The White Stripes were born, and Meg was acclaimed as one of rock music’s most compelling stickswoman. Nor could I do anything about the side of the box which was bonded to the hull, but I could get to the other three sides. I therefore could not consider adding insulation to the inside of the box because it would reduce storage space. The inside of my ice box has a fibreglass inner shell 13”inches wide at the top and only 10”inches at the bottom. When the freezer is ‘off’ the inside of the box slowly starts to de-thaw, so the thicker the insulation the slower the de-thawing process. One reason why insulation is so important on a sailboat is because you want the equipment running as little as possible, to reduce battery drain. I was advised that no less than four inches and preferably six inches of insulation thickness would be necessary to insulate the compartment for a freezer. So I posted a question on the Cruisers Forum and received over 130 messages which varied from, “Impossible-buy a self contained fridge/freezer box,” to, “It depends on the thickness of the insulation.” The thread was viewed by more than 6500 members worldwide, so there is evidently great interest in what I was considering doing.įrom these replies, and talking to people, it became apparent that insulation is the single most important portion of any boat freezer. I had absolutely no experience of installing freezers, and I wasn't even sure if it was possible. It was 29”inches deep and extremely difficult to reach the bottom through the small 12”inch square lid, but there was a shelf half way up where food could be placed and ice packed underneath. The box was completely encapsulated in the side of the galley, with one side against the hull. The first thing I did was remove the old refrigerator and slide a nice new stainless steel Indel unit in the same place, but this didn't hold frozen food, so I began to consider if I might be able to convert the ice box into a proper freezer.
